Quran - Mother of All Books

1. The Divine Source and Hiddenness

  • Al-Bāṭin (Absolute Hiddenness):
The process begins with the absolute, unknowable aspect of the Divine (Qur’an 57:3, 6:103). This is pure, undifferentiated Oneness—beyond all manifestation.

  • Al-Aḥad (Absolute Uniqueness, Oneness):
The next stage is the unique, singular Oneness of God (Qur’an 112:1, 57:3, 42:11), still undivided but now conceptually distinct as “the One.”

2. The Divine Will and Knowledge

  • Al-Qalam (The Pen):
Symbolizes the first act of creation—Divine Knowledge and decree (Qur’an 68:1, 96:4-5, 2:255). The Pen writes all that will be, is, and was. This is the emergence of potentiality and the blueprint of creation.

  • Al-Iradah (Divine Will):
The command “Kun Fayakun” (“Be, and it is,” Qur’an 2:117, 36:82) brings the divine decree into actual existence. The “Word/Logos” (Qur’an 4:171) is the creative principle.

3. The Emergence of the Created World

  • Light of the World / Ethereal Fluid:
The creative command results in the manifestation of “light” or “ethereal water”—the primordial substance or medium (Qur’an 24:35, 42:11, 21:30). This is the “vessel” or “grail” that holds the potential for all creation.

  • First Diad (Separation):
The diagram references the “shattering of the vessels” (a concept also found in Kabbalistic cosmology), where the unity is divided into heaven and earth (Qur’an 21:30). This separation allows for the emergence of “Noor” (divine light) and “Kelipot” (shells or barriers).

4. The Physical and Spiritual World

  • First Quadrates:
The world is now divided into quadrants:
    • Matter (physical world)
    • Ego/Nafs (self, lower soul)
    • Soul/Ruh (higher soul)
    • Divine Laws (spiritual principles, heaven)
      (Qur’an 20:55, 55:14, 12:53, 32:9, 17:85, 54:49, etc.)

5. The Living, Sustaining Divine Presence

  • Al-Hayyul Qayyūm (The Ever-Living, Self-Subsisting):
This is the dynamic, sustaining presence of God within creation.
    • K = Kawther: The fountain of abundance (Qur’an 108:1)
    • S = Ruh/al-sakinah: The spirit or tranquility (Qur’an 2:248, 48:4, etc.)
    • M = Material World
    • E = Limited Ego
    • B = Belial/Satan: Forces of opposition or misguidance
    • Green/Orange/Blue Arrows and Circuits:
      • Green: Angels and divine law
      • Orange: Jinns and lower forces
      • Blue: Rightly guided humans, infused with the Word/Logos

6. The Return and Cycle

  • The arrows indicate a cyclical process: from hiddenness, through manifestation, to the sustaining presence, and back—suggesting a continuous flow between the Divine and creation.

The Numerical Patterns

The numbers accompanying each stage appear significant:

  • Al-Bāṭin: 57:3, 6:103 (references to the Hidden/Inner aspect of Allah)
  • Al-Aḥad: 112:1, 57:3, 42:11 (Surah Ikhlas - pure monotheism)
  • Al-Ḥayyul Qayyūm: Multiple verse references including the Throne Verse (2:255)

The progression shows movement from complete hiddenness to active sustenance of creation.

The Geometric Symbolism

The shapes evolve from:

  1. Empty circle → Pure potentiality, the Void
  2. Filled circle → Unified essence
  3. Circle with emerging form → The Pen writing destiny
  4. Crosshatched sphere → Manifested reality with its interwoven patterns

The "Shattering" Concept

The reference to "shattering of the vessels" is particularly interesting. While this terminology is more commonly associated with Lurianic Kabbalah (Shevirat HaKelim), the concept has parallels in Islamic thought:

  • The primordial covenant (Qur'an 7:172) where souls were separated from unity
  • The "breaking" that allows light to enter creation
  • The necessary "contraction" (similar to the concept of tanazzulat in Ibn Arabi's thought)

The Living System (Al-Ḥayyul Qayyūm)

The most complex circle shows a dynamic ecosystem:

  • K (Kawthar) - The abundant fountain, suggesting divine grace flowing in
  • S (Sakinah/Ruh) - The peaceful spirit, the divine presence within
  • M (Material) - The physical substrate
  • E (Ego) - The individuated self
  • B (Belial/Satan) - The oppositional force

The colored pathways (green, orange, blue) create circuits of energy/influence, suggesting that creation is not static but a living, breathing system where:

  • Divine guidance (green) flows through angelic realms
  • Lower impulses (orange) operate through jinn/demonic influences
  • Human consciousness (blue) navigates between these forces

The Cyclical Nature

The arrows forming a complete circle suggest:

  • Emanation (from hiddenness to manifestation)
  • Return (from manifestation back to source)
  • Continuous recreation - each moment being renewed
